India's music maestro and Oscar winner A. R. Rahman (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) has been nominated for prestigious 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in the Soundtrack Album category, competing against CADILLAC RECORDS, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, TRUE BLOOD, and TWILIGHT. A. R. Rahman provided the music of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.
'Jai Ho' song from SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE has been nominated in Best Song for film-TV-visual media category, where it will be competing against 'The Climb' (HANNAH MONTANA), 'Decode' (TWILIGHT), 'Once In A Lifetime' (CADILLAC RECORDS), and 'The Wrestler' (THE WRESTLER). 'Jai Ho' was written by Rahman, Gulzar, and Tanvi Shah; while it was sung by Rahman, Shah, Sukhvinder Singh, Mahalaxmi Iyer, and Vijay Prakash.
Others nominated are India's legendary sarod player Padma Vibhushan Amjad Ali Khan, "Tathagata" (Szu Wei Cheng and Hui Chen Huang) which means one who has found the truth and is the name of the historical Buddha, has been nominated in "Best Recording Package" category.
Meanwhile, India Arie Simpson, whose "Voyage to India" album has sold 2.2 million copies worldwide and won her two Grammy Awards, has been nominated in three categories for : RandB Performance for "Chocolate High", Urban/Alternative for "Pearls", and RandB Album for "Testimony-Love and Politics".
Beyonce leads nominations with 10, followed by Taylor Swift with eight, out of total 109 categories and 30 fields; including outstanding achievements in Pop, Rock, Rap, Country, New Age, Gospel, Jazz, Folk, World Music, Latin, Reggae, Blues, etc.; for Grammy Awards to be held on January 31st at Staples Center in Los Angeles (California).
